Hartley/Stephens
- Wasdale Head
I am trying to trace family of my biological father John Hartley.b 1927 in Whitehaven His father was Isaac b1897 in Sellafield. His father was John Sherwin Hartley b1871 sellafield and his father John b c1835 Sellafield.
John Hartley married twice. His second wife was called Gwenyth and I believe he had 2 sons with her. His first wife gave him a daughter. He is buried in St Mary's Gosforth or at least his name may be on a stone there - probably his father Isaacs as he himself was not interred in the churchyard. I would love to know the names of his wives and ther children. My sister and I were fathered by him but he never married our mother. Bit of a rogue I fear!
My mother was (Alwyn) Helen Stephens and she was the daughter of Robert & Eve nee HOPE who ran the Wasdale Hall as an hotel before it became a Youth Hostel. I would love to find someone who new my father and could fill in the very sketchy background I have on him. He died in 1984.

Dent
- Watermillock
I'd love to chat with anyone who has links to the following family:
John DENT (1788-1866) and Mary NICHOLSON (1789-1867) were married in Watermillock in 1814 and their children were all born there: John (1816, Greenah), Mary (1818, Croft Head), Jane(1820, Croft Head), Ann (1823, Croft Head), Margaret (1825, Croft Head) and Joseph (1833, Croft Head).
John DENT (Snr) was a tenant farmer of Croft Head and Back Rigg - land owned by Joseph THWAITES.
John DENT's father John DENT (1750-1831) and mother Mary BEWLEY (1750-1830) were also tenant farmers, of Land Ends in Watermillock. I'm not sure when they moved there but it was after the birth of their youngest son John in 1788 at Dalebottom in St Johns in the Vale, and 1829 when they were listed in the 'Principal Inhabitants of Cumberland' information as living at Land Ends.
