Walker, Brown, Steele, Talbot, Redcliffe
- Maryport
Hi, I am looking for further details regarding the above-mentioned families. My grandmother Susannah Walker Steele was born in Cockermouth in 1893. Her mother Mary Brown b.+/_1869 married John Steele b. 1860. Her grandmother's maiden name was Susannah Walker, daughter of William Walker and Anne Donald. Susannah Walker's siblings appear to have been Wilson Walker b. 1846, Jane Walker 1847 and Robert Neill Walker, a few years later. My grandmother and her parents, together with her younger sister Annie Talbot Steele left Cumberland in the early 1900's for South Africa. Two siblings Jean and Campbell died in Maryport at a very young age. I beleve that William Walker was an eminent shipbuilder, that the Brown family were grocer/shopkeeper's and know for certain that John Steele had a Colliery Mine Manager's Certificate. Any further information or suggestions as to how I should/could proceed further, would be much appreciated. Sincerely, Terence.
