Rosevear of Camelford and Vincents of St Dominick
- Camelford
Hello
My great great great great grandfather, William Henry Rosevear/s, emigrated (free) from Camelford Cornwall, born 1773, to Hobart, Tasmania in 1829 on ship 'Calista' with servant Mary Burton and 4 children to wife Sarah Rosevear (left behind!). He died in Launceston Tasmania in 1860, leaving 13 children and also a town in Tasmania named after him.
Can anyone fill me in on his/family's history?
Also I come from his daughter, Mary Rosevear/s (1831 TAS -1887 TAS)who married George Rivers Vincent (b.1823 on ship 'Elizabeth' to Tas - d.1881 Tas) (son of John Vincent who emigrated (free)with wife Susannah (nee Rivers) and children in 1823 on'Elizabeth' to Hobart)from town of St Dominick in Cornwall. William Rosevear/s and John Vincent built and ran inns in Tasmania, and their Cornish heritage probably assisted in bringing their two children together in marriage.
Thanks for any information about these families and what their 1820s Cornish lives might have been like.

Cole Families
- Cardinham
In the early 1800s there were two Cole families living in Cardinham. They do not appear to have been closely related. Family 1 comprised Thomas and Elizabeth (nee Wherry), with four male children, Thomas (bap 11/1/1818), Nicholas (bap 1/5/1825), Abel Wherry (bap 24/12/1826) & John (b 1831). John married Mary and moved to Landulph with two sons Christopher and William, Abel married Eliza and moved to Gwennap with three sons William, Christopher and John Charles, Nicholas married Betsey and moved to St Cleather with three sons Thomas, Richard and William. The second family comprised William (bap 1/11/1818) & Elizabeth (nee Ellicott), with three children Gertrude Ann (bap 19/2/1837), Jonathan Ellicott (bap 27/4/1840) and William (bap 6/8/1843). Gertrude moved to the Isle of Wight and married Edward Burnett, with ten children, Elizabeth, Edward, William, Alfred, Emily, Ada, James, Eleanor, Ernest and Christina. William married Mary (nee Wilton) and moved to St Cleer with six children Gertrude, William, Mary, Ernest, Bessie and John. He later moved to St Neot and married Emma with two children Lucy and Elizabeth. A brother to William was Richard (b 1796) and Mary (nee Hancock) who lived in Warleggan with their daughter Mary (bap 24/9/1837). William and Richard were descended from Daniel and Mary.

Hockin/g/s, Vercoe
- Charlestown
My 3xgreat grandfather John Hockin, baptized 1786, was a carpenter in Charlestown, Cornwall. I've searched the St Austell parish register for his parents but its very difficult/impossible to read the old entries. He married Mary Vercoe at St.Austell in 1812 and they raised three sons, William, John, and Thomas who all became carpenters, joiners, shipwrights, etc. I'm descended from the youngest son, Thomas who moved to Portsea in the mid-1800's. I'm searching for the parents of the original John Hockin and if anyone has traced the family back earlier than 1786 I'd be interested to hear from them. If interested I can pass on what I know about the Thomas Hockin family in Portsea/Alverstoke, Hampshire.

Date Family
- Constantine
I am researching my family line on my father's side. When I originally posted my details on the site some months ago, I believed that I decended from the Date family who were based in Somerset. Through research, I now know that this is incorrect as my decendants were from Cornwall, namely from Constantine, Breage and Sithney. Through the willingness of others to share information, I have amassed a great deal which I am slowly putting onto a family tree. However, I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may be a DATE or have a DATE connection in their family trees to discuss any links that there may be.
