Trelease/Bray
- St. Ive
Do you know of anyone studying the Trelease
(Elizabeth Jane Trelease was a schoolteacher at Linkinhorne-- nee Bray) family history? My Great Grandfather Herbert Vivian Trelease came to Sutter Creek, California,USA for the Gold Rush(mining)at the age of 16-- he met his older brother William(who had come via Chili, South America) but William Harold Trelease-his older brother died just a few years after Herbert had arrived (William Harold Trelease had care of Thomas Trelease's children too -not sure how Thomas Trelease was related) at any rate, Herbert moved to Philadelphia and then southern New Jersey(he was an artisan of sorts leather/bridal ).

WHAT IS THE CONNECTION?
- St Ives
Is the anyone who could help me make this connection please? My great great grandfather was Richard Tonkin Denbow. He came from Devonport. One of the witnesses at his second marriage in London in 1858 was Joyce Biddlecombe.
In the 1861 census James Biddlecombe and his wife Joyce Davey (or Dasey) Biddlecombe are listed living in Euston Road St Pancras London with their children William and Emily. They both give their birthplace as Devonport. Also listed is Mary Ann Tonkin , 76, mother in law who gave her place of birth as St Ives Cornwall. There must be a connection between Mary Ann Tonkin and my great great great grandmother Bridget Tonkin, Richards mother, who was born in St Buryan but lived in Devonport. I have hit a brick wall in identifying Bridgets parents and think that Mary Ann could provide the link. I know its a long shot but....

St AGNES to St IVES to DEVONPORT
- St Ives
I would like to find out more about the TONKIN family, headed by JOHN and SUKEY TONKIN. IN 1841 they were living in St Agnes with their children GEORGE, WILLIAM, SUSAN and SAM, and John was a Copper Miner. In the 1851 census they are in St Ives together with MARY, LOUISE and STEVEN, John was described as a Tin Miner. I could not find them in 1861 but by 1871 they were living in Devonport and John, now 75 and his second son William are both described as oufitters. John must have died before the 1891 census, as Sukey 96, is described as a widow, and William continued the family business and is described as a Draper employing 6 men, 2 boys, 20 women and 6 girls.

Key Family - St Just
- St Just
My Key ancestors lived in St Just between about 1840 and 1883. Joseph and Sarah (nee Brokenshire) moved there in about 1840 from St Enoder with their 5 children John, Caroline, James Brokensha, Eleanor (Ellen) and Joseph. Joseph was a blacksmith. I am descended from James Brokensha, who maried Jane Ellis in 1856. They had 3 children: Joseph, James Henry and Janey. Jane was later re-married to John Olds. By 1881 they had moved to Frizington in Cumberland, where John became an ironstone miner. Joseph married Matilda Wallis in 1880. They move to Brotton, N.Yorks in about 1883, where Joseph became an iron stone miner. James Henry married Johanna Murley and moved to Millom, Cumberland at about the same time. I would be happy to share informaion about these families.
