Crossley, Syd. Died Bolenowe Nov 1960.
- Bolenowe
Syd Crossley had no children and had lived in Bolenowe since 1948. His second wife died 1955 at the same address, viz. Crossley Cottage, Bolenowe nr. Troon. Syd played minor character parts in over 100 films up to 1942, inc'g in Hollywood 1924-1929. He toured with ENSA in the Middle East in WWII. I am keen to find the forenames and birth names of his two wives. Syd started in English music hall in 1900 and was then known as The Long Tall Comic. In 1938 he was living in Colindale, London NW9. His collection of cinema stills was displayed at King's Cinema Camborne following his death at Barncoose Hospital, Redruth.
The only mourners at his service at Penmount Crematorium were Walter Edwards, shopkeeper of Troon, and Mrs J Gessey, a near neighbour.

VANSTONE in BOSCASTLE
- Boscastle
Can anyone tell me where I might find death records for the Boscastle area? I have a photocopy of the birth certificate of my great (great?) aunt, Edith Mary Vanstone, b. March 7, 1893. Someone has written in the corner "Died Wednesday, February 28, 1912 (1/4 to 7 P.M.) at Boscastle. Rest in Peace through Christ Jesus our Savior, Amen." By 1912, she would be 19 years old. I MAY have found a marriage (is age 15 young for that era to marry or fairly common?) in 1908. Any ideas?? Thank you

Date Family
- Breage
I am researching my family line on my father's side. When I originally posted my details on the site some months ago, I believed that I decended from the Date family who were based in Somerset. Through research, I now know that this is incorrect as my decendants were from Cornwall, namely from Constantine, Breage and Sithney. Through the willingness of others to share information, I have amassed a great deal which I am slowly putting onto a family tree. However, I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may be a DATE or have a DATE connection in their family trees to discuss any links that there may be.

BASSETT family between 1820 to 1851
- Breage
John Bassett and Martha Carbis, married in the Paul parish in 1812, and lived in St Hilary from 1815 to 1820. The couple moved from St Hillary and then lived in various places in Breage between 1820 and 1851 before leaving the area.
Evidence of where they were lived in Breage can be found in two of the local parish churches and also in the 1841 and 1851 census records
Parish Church Records
- John & Marthas children who were christened in Breage are found in the following parish churches are as follows:-
the Germoe church:-
John 1820 (IGI)
Francis 1823 (Transcribed from the Parish Records by the On line Parish Clerk)
Anne 1826 (IGI)
Martha 1828 (IGI)
Samuel 1838 (Transcribed from the Parish Records by the On line Parish Clerk)
the St Breaca church:-
James 1833 who was also burried in this church in 1833 (Transcribed Parish Records by a fellow researcher)
James 1834 (Transcribed from the Parish Records by a fellow researcher)
(It appears as though these churches were quite close together, according to the Parish Locator program about 2 miles apart, why the family had various children christened in two different churches is unknown. According to Genuki Germoe has been considered as a separate parish for many years, but the Church has been subordinate to that of Breage. It is located in the far south-west of Cornwall, sandwiched between the parishes of Godolphin and Breage. This was eminently a mining parish, but it also had some good farms. Originally, the houses and shops were built to satisfy the needs of miners digging for tin and china clay)
In the Census records the family can be found residing in the following places
1841
Blowing House Stamps, Breage
(HO107/136/3, Folio:64, Page:19)
1. John Bassett, aged 50, Tin Miner, born Cornwall

2. Martha Bassett,Wife aged 57, born in Paul Cornwall,,
3. James Bassett,Son, aged 16, Tin Miner, born in Breage Cornwall,,
4. Martha Bassett,Dau, aged 22,Tin Dressing, born in Breage Cornwall
In the 1861 the family havd moved out of the area to Fraddam, Gwinear also in Cornwall

SEMMENS of Breage
- Breage
William SEMMENS born 1820-21, Breage married Elizabeth ALLEN born 1824-5 on 9 March 1844 at Breage. They had 10 children
William, John Henry, Richard Emmanuel, Jane, Mary, Charles, Rosina, Elizabeth Ann, Kezia, Isabella
They moved from Breage around 1860 via Callington to St Ives (1861) and northward via Yorkshire (1871)and Lancashire (1881). 4 of their offspring married into the KENNEDY family of Wigtownshire and most of the 10 siblings settled in Blyth, Northumberland where the name finally became settled as SIMMONS instead of the previous multiple variations of spelling. Some descendants later emigrated to Australia around 1920-30's.
There are several descendants around the world researching this family and we have lots of information to share.
I would particularly interested in anyone who can shed light on the daughters, Jane, Mary, Kezia and Isabella as we have no details other than from census returns and birth registration.
