Penberthy - Eastwood - Lelant
I'm looking for information regarding my GGGG/M, born Mary Jane Penberthy in 1859. She is shown as being born in Bodmin, but a later census shows Lelant (or Uny Lelent). I have traced what I think is the correct family. Her parents were Lewis b.1822 and Nanny b.1824. Her G/F was also Lewis b.abt 1790. Mary Jane and her brother John (a miner) moved to Gorton, around 1870 and later Pendlebury, (both Manchester). Mary J seems to disapear for a while, but later married Timothy Smith (another miner), first having had 3 or possibly 4 children by an unknown father. The children are Ella, Maud and Major Penberthy, all with a middle name of Eastwood, which may have been their fathers surname. My GGG/M, Hannah was also born around this time although she is always shown as Smith. Very complicated indeed. It's likely that John Penberthy moved North to work in the many coal mines in the area, when tin mining was dying out, but why did Mary Jane go as well? If you can help in any way, either with the Cornish connection or more importantly the Manchester events, Please do so.
