Jope family early 1620s
- Liskeard
The Visitation of Cornwall carried out in 1620 shows a pedigree of three generations beginning with Rogerus Jope of Meryfeild of Stokechymsland (sic) in the county of Cornwall and ending with Johannes Jope of Meryfeild. aged 40 at the time of the Visitation. Unfortunately, no arms are depicted with this pedigree.
I know there are lots of Jopes still living in the area - I am interested only in the 17th century - according to the heralds he married Mary Glanville - whose brother was MP for Liskeard in 1614. Please contact me with any further details! Many thanks.

Crago Flour Mill
- Liskeard
I'm trying to locate the movements of my great grandfather before he arrived in Australia.
His name is John Nankivell Mitchell. I know he was born in St Columb in Cornwall in 1862 and allegedly migrated at age 18.
Here'e the interesting bit. In 1886 my grandmother was born in Bathurst where he was the manager of Crago's Flour Mill there.
Francis Crago was also from Cornwall. According to some data I have he ran a windmill on the family farm and there is apparently some likelihood it was in or near Liskeard. His father was William Crago 1799-1877.
Francis arrived in Yass about 1858 and managed Barber's Flour Mill there which he must have purchased and renamed in 1872. A new mill was built in 1882, I believe.
There was always a very strong family connection between the Crago family and the Mitchells here in Sydney.
I am guessing that my great grandfather was known to the Cragos in Cornwall, may well have received his training in milling from them and was subsequently written to and asked to come to Australia to manage one of their expanding number of mills. My grandmother also used to mention Redruth, and recognised photographs of children she used to play with during her visits to relatives in Cornwall - the photos were in Daphne DuMaurier's book "Vanishing Cornwall". Our family homes in Sydney were named "Treleigh" and "Halwyn".
So, what I'm looking for is any evidence that he was resident or employed in a mill in any part of Cornwall in the years (say 1870-1880) before his arrival in the colony.

Collins, Symons, Bougoure
- Liskeard
Hi - trying to locate family of William Henry Collins & Ann Symons, married Liskeard 1839. Daughter Mary Symons Collins born 1843 in Liskeard. Mary Collins married Daniel Bougoure in Queensland, Australia, in 1859. She died in 1924 at Dalby, Qld.
I have not been able to find anything on Family Search/IGI for either Collins or Symons families in Liskeard - when parents born, etc. Only info I found were parents' marriage on Free BMD as well as Mary's birth.
