JAMES BIGGS
- Chester
My great great grandfather James Biggs was born in Chester on 8/8/1807, and baptised at St Marys on the Hill. The register gives his parents names as Job and Mary Biggs, and Jobs occupation 'labourer'. I cannot find anyrecord of them anywhere else although the 1841 census has an Elizabeth and William Biggs aged 45 and 50 living at Brooks Alley Handbridge, and William alone in the 1851 census with his birthplace listed as Howden Yorkshire.I now know that William was the brother of James and that he was born at HAWARDEN Flintshire, and not in Yorkshire, that he married in 1834 and that his wife was Elizabeth Cash.I have also found that James had a sister Ann who was born in Ruabon and who married Thomas Denson in Chester in 1821.
James moved to BRISTOL where He became a Poor Rate/Tax Collector. He married Matilda Page from Wotton under Edge in Gloucestershire. They had at least 5 children James, Thomas, Ellen May, Matilda Jane and the youngest, Job Federick who was my great grandfather. Does anyone know anything about the BIGGS family in CHESTER at that time please?
