HAWTHORN / STOCKPORT Looking for information about David Hawthorn, born 1820/21 in Stockport who married Martha Unwin in 1853. Also his father William Hawthorne and David's daughter Emily who married John Thomas Ryan in Manchester in 1875 and their son, Charles Ryan born 1878. Other surnames connected with the family are Gardiner, Higham, Howcroft, Langton and Sumner - all in the Manchester, Stockport, Ashton-under-Lyne, Hyde and Nantwich areas.

John Hayward, born in Stockport, Cheshire, UK, was married to Mary Hayward (nee) Burns from Ireland who too died in approx.1947/'48. They had approx. 6 children; Jack; Frances (b.30/7/1913-m.1938-d.Aug.1982); Helen; Thomas (who emigrated to Australia); Winnie and another elder daughter of whose name I don't know. If anybody recognises these names as being a part of their family let me know.

John POLLITT 1806 - 1854 Born Haughton Green Lancashire and Schoolmaster of Denton Old School 1846 – 1854. The school was demolished c1860 and the ground used for additional burial space. John was married to Mary Yates who was Schoolmistress they lived at the Schoolhouse. I am interested in the social history of the school and the Pollitt/Yates ancestors and descendants. Their son William Pollitt b1836 Stockport Cheshire went on to become Schoolmaster of Withington School c1876 on Stockport Road. Was born 1805 (Chr.8 May 1805 at St Marys Church Stockport, Cheshire). Sentenced to Death for housebreaking at the Chester Assizes at the Shire Hall 23 March 1833, Before Mr Justice Patterson and Mr Baron Bayley. "George Webb, late of the parish of Great Budworth in the County of Cheshire, Labourer, was charged that on 3rd November 1832 he was quilty of housebreaking at the house of Richard Willat and stole a silver watch and £23.7.0 in coin". George Webb pleaded not guilty. "The jurors say guilty". His sentence was commuted "transport for life". Sailed from Portsmouth and arrived in Sydney Australia on "Aurora" on 3 Nov 1833. Looking for any family descendants that may be still living in the UK.
