CAPTAIN JOHN LEWIS
- Tranmere
was listed as being from Tranmere when his ship the St Cuthbert of the Phoenix Steamship Company sank of Nova Scotia on 7/8 Feb 1908 on route from Antwerp to New Youk. He and his crew (some of them) were rescued by the White Star Line's Cymric on route to Boston. This was the first ship ever to use Marconi's radio wireless to call out for help (SOS).
He married my Great Grandma Lizzie Jamison on 7 Oct 1890 in Templepatrick, Co Antrim, Northern Ireland and lived at the family home of Ballymartin House there. Does anyone know anyting about him before that time in Tranmere or in Wales where he was supposedly born.
Thanks a lot!
