Re:Alice Welch - Nantwich
I have been researching my family "Whittingham" and discovered that Samuel Heath Whittingham married Rhoda Welch in Nantwich in August 1877. (She was born in Nantwich but died in Manchester as recently as 1930) Rhoda's father Henry Welch was a coach builder and his family lived in Barker Street. There were 7 children I believe but I do not have the name "Alice" as one of them. (What I have includes Louisa, Elisabeth, John, Frank, Henry and Ann, all born in Nantwich I thought) However, one of Samuel and Rhoda's children was called Maud Whittingham and she was born about 1887 in Manchester and she might well be the niece of the Alice Welch someone is looking for. Maud's brothers and sisters were Edward, William, Percival (my Grandfather) Alice and Gladys. So Samuel and Rhoda Whittingham were my Great-Grandparents.

Thomas "Raymond" Cottrell and his wife Elizabeth Emily Cottrell (nee Davies) are my Great Grandparents. At the time of the 1901 census they resided in Willaston (back of Institute) They had four children at that time Arthur (7), Amy (6), Florence (4) baby Ethel (7months) Arthur was killed in action during the Great War (21st August 1918) aged 24. He was an infantryman with the 13th battalion, King's Liverpool Regiment. He is buried at the British Cemetery in the sleepy rural hamlet of Douchy-les-Ayette, in France, close to the Western Front. My Great Grandad Raymond and his wife went on to have a very large family.
