William Arnold From... Where? - Stockport
William Arnold was born around 1872. He lived and married in Stockport, but wasn't born there. The only census he appears in says that he was born in Preston, but I can't find him there. His father(James Arnold, born Cirencester) was in the 29th Regiment of Foot and travelled with his regiment (known to have been in Preston and various places in Ireland). William's mother was Mary Welsh (born in Ireland, married in Preston). Any 29th Regiment buff who can suggest where to look for William's birth?

He accompanied Franklin to the Spitzbergen Seas in the Trent in 1818 and to the Coppermine River by land, and the Arctic coasts of America 1819-22, and to the Mackenzie River 1825-27.
