Thomas Francis, Eleanor Stephenson nee Molyneux, Elizabeth Grace
- Bebington
Trying to find out more about Thomas Francis (1762-1850), an eccentric from Lower Bebington who made the puzzle stones now in Bebington Library and who built a strange, turreted building in the village as a defence against invasion by Napoleon. In the 1841 census he's living with his wife Ann, maiden name unknown. Under the same roof are a servant (Mary Carrington age 23) and two little girls, surname Grace (Ann (5) and Elizabeth (7)). Someone fitting Elizabeth reappears as an annuitant, born Arley, in the 1851 census living on a farm in Bebington with the Williams family. I believe Thomas was related (perhaps a great uncle?) to Eleanor Molyneux, who married Thomas Stephenson and was subsequently the Bebington postmistress. Eleanor's descendants would love to know the link between Thomas Francis, the Graces and Eleanor Stephenson nee Molyneux. Eleanor (b Poulton cum Seacombe 1821, d Bebington 1903) owned several houses in The Village, Bebington, namely 11,13,15,17,19, 21 and 23 The Village.
I would love to hear from anyone with information on the people mentioned here. Happy to share the information we already have.
Thank you.
