- Marton
John Barnes 1791 married Caroline Forster in 1815 and had::Sarah Barnes 1815, Elizabeth Barnes 1817 (See below), Hannah Barnes 1820 (See below), Jospeh Barnes 1822, Emily Barnes 1825, John Barnes 1828, Thomas Barnes 1831, James Barnes 1832, Willliam Barnes 1838 and Caroline Barnes 1838:: Amazingly, Elizabeth's descendants and Hannah's meet up once again in one marriage in the 1990's! Elizabeth had five children by Jeremiah Holland, marrying him in 1849, and dying in 1855 possibly but between 1851 and 1861 in any case:These were Sarah Barnes 1839, Martha Barnes later Holland (or Barnes Holland) 1840, Joseph Barnes (stayed as Barnes)1844, Albert Barnes (later Holland) 1850 and Harriet Holland 1855 who married George Hall. Joseph 1844 is the link to my family through Marland of Ashton under Lyne:: Hannah Barnes 1820 married Joseph Hargreaves (1822) in abt 1845, and had many children, Mary Hargreaves being born in 1850. Mary married William Whittaker born 1848, and had Joseph Whittaker, Mary Hargreaves Whittaker and Olive Whittaker. Joseph married his cousin Annie Ward Whittaker and their descendant is our family member too. Mary Hargreaves, as above, had a brother called John Hargreaves born 1860. He had sons by Annie or as the record shows Mary Ann Clarke, called Horace, Joseph 1889 and James. Joseph had son Horace who moved to Belfast, N Ireland, UK. John remarried in 1901 to Annie Davies. Thank you for reading this, and if you are connected to this family, I have further information.

Piggott Family 1700s - 1800s
- Marton Green
Our Pig(g)ott ancestors lived in Marton Green until the mid-late 1800s. They were farmers, and we would love to know where they lived. They may have owned or been related to another Piggott who owned the leasehold on a farm and a mill, mentioned inthe will of Ellis Piggott dated 1707. Would also like to know who the landowner was from whom the lease was bought. One of our ancestors, John Pigott was in the Cheshire Yeomanry at the time of the Peterloo Massacre in 1819. Any clues about why the family left the area would also be welcome.
