Wisbech St Peter's Duffs, Leonards and Coopers. - Wisbech
My great grandad Frederick married Charlotte Duff in 1847. Their daughter Emma was born in 1873 in Wisbech and they later moved to Rotherhithe. Frederick's father was Simon Leonard, a bricklayer, perhaps originally from Mildenhall/Barton Mills Suffolk( to be proven!) and if so his mother was Ann Kimmons. Ann died in 1826, six years after marriage and leaving two small sons at least-Frederick and Isaac Leonard. Charlotte Duff was the youngest daughter of James Duff born circa 1873-where I don't know as he died in 1850 before places of birth were mentioned on the census-would love to know! Charlotte's mother was Jane Cooper born 1787 in Wisbech. I would love to hear from anyone who thinks they might be linked. James and his family seem to have been the first Duffs in Wisbech. A Sarah Duff aged 77 died there in 1830 and also a William Duff aged 44 in 1833-doubtless relations. I have found several Duffs in Lincolnshire census entries but nothing to link up. James was a gardener. Frederick Leonard was a railway platelayer and claimed to have been born in Holborn.
