CHARLES J. DALLINGER
- Wokingham
Researching DALLINGER family links to CHALLIS & CHAMBERLAIN families in Reading & Wokingham.
Edwin, his twin, Emily and their younger brother, Frederick Chamberlain arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia in May 1901 as Middlemore Home Children. Edwin and Frederick served in England and Europe during WWI. Edwin first married Geneive Jessie Dallinger in Dec 1918 or January 1919. She was the daughter of Charles J. and Edith Dallinger. I do not know what became of Geneive. Info on 1881 and 1901 census leads me to believe, that Geneive was a half sister to Lavinia Ann Dallinger. I have not had access to the 1891 Census.
About 1921, Edwin married again to Mary Elizabeth Challis b. 5 December 1901 in Reading & Wokingham, Berkshire, England - d/o Lavinia Ann Dallinger (b. March 1877 married 1901) William John CHALLIS, Sr.
Edwin & Mary returned to Canada in 1922.
Emily and Edwin Chamberlain descendants have spread across Canada.

Coates/Hobbs/Phillips
- Wokingham
I am trying to find details of my Gt Gt Grandmother Martha Coates. Martha was born around 1835 in Hounslow, Middlesex, but lived in Wokingham at the time of marriage to Henry Hobbs a Potter on 9 July 1856 at Nettlebed Parish Church. From their marriage Martha's father is named as Thomas Coates a Baker. Henry and Martha had 5 children. William born 1856 in Nettlebed, Thomas born 1859 in Marylebone, Mary born 1861 in Laverpent?, Abraham born 1863 in Marylebone and my Gt Grandmother Laura Ellen born 27 Sept. 1869, in Reading. From Laura Ellen's birth certificate Henry was now a Cattle Dealer, but had died in her birth year 1869.
Martha remarried Henry Phillips a Carpenter from Nettlebed in Sept. qtr 1870 and lived in Sonning Berks with the 5 children. I will assume that Henry Phillips also died between 1871 and 1881 as from the 1881 Census, Martha is living in Bermondsey, Surrey with Abraham and Laura. If anyone knows about this family. I would be pleased to hear from you.
