I am seeking the decendants of James and Mary Hawkins. Their son, my great grandfather, Samuel was born on 27th April 1883 at 1 Brook Street, Reading, Berkshire. My greatgrandfather Samuel (Jnr) married Edith Hartwell of 128 Cumberland Road, Reading in 1908. The immigrated to Australia in 1910. My mother and I would very much like to reconnect with family in the UK.

Alfred & Emma Martha Cooper

Alfred & Emma Martha Cooper resided in Reading, Berks, in 1902. Alfred was a Steam train driver, and had an un-timely death in 1902, aged 43, leaving his Wife, Emma Martha, 38, and nine children. Names of the surviving children were Reginald, Doris, Ethel, Ella, Alfred, Frederick, Harold, Montague, Frank. According to birth certificates, they lived in St. Johns Street (1893), then moved on to Audley Street, (1902) and finally, Dorset Street (1907). Emma Martha Cooper died in 1942 Reading. Has anyone any information regarding this family, and the subsequent history of the Children. I have come to a standstill in my research, so I would love to hear from anyone who has any relevant information.....you could be my distant cousin!

Is there anyone who can remember name of the shoe shop in Broad Street, opposite Wellsteeds, which used to be where True Form shoes was. The owner was called Parker and I believe it was bomb damaged at probably the same time as Wellsteeds. I would be most grateful to hear from anyone who could tell me what it was called. Strickland Family - Photographs

William Henry Strickland was born in Peterborough 1837 to John and Mary Ann Strickland nee Pheasant. William was organist at St Mary's Church Reading from circa 1865 until his death in 1907. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Reading Philharmonic Society. His first wife was Annie Elizabeth Parnwell (4 children) and in 1868 married Ellen Thompson (5 children). I am interested in contacting anybody who may have any old family photographs which they would be willing to let me have copies of. Thanks

I am looking for any info or descendants on the MINES family. My 4 x gt g'father was a John Mines, born 'Berkshire' per 1841 census when family living Remenham. My 3 x gt g'mother was the daughter of John and his wife Mary. Her name was Eliza MINES born ca 1819 and married to Charles REED or READ in the Parish Church, Remenham in 1842. John and Mary's other children per 1841 census were James (c.1824) and Susanah (c.1825).
Eliza and Charles REED (or READ) moved to Reading, where my 2xgt g'mother Caroline REEAD or READ was born around 1849.
I can't seem to find John Mines or James and Susanah on later census records, though a Susan Mines married in Reading in 1846 so could be same person.
Are there any MINES family still in the area?

The Lodge at Shinfield is an old house built in 1814, I believe. During WWII it served as the Mess for RAF Flying Training Command. From 1971 to 2002 it was the social centre of the Met Office College. Some of the additions to The Lodge look likeWorld War I, Great War, vintage buildings. Does anyone know the history of the house during the Great War? It was a private house, but did it have any special war role?
