Garforth Graham Ellis and Margaret McIntosh were married in Canada in the early 1900s. My grandmother told me she was from Holyport and her father and mother were headmaster and mistress of a school. Laggan House Cookham Rd Maidenhead - Maidenhead
I'm researching the history of Laggan House which was built around 1881 on present day Cookham Road Maidenhead. Some of the occupants I have discovered are Sir Astley Cooper Key, Richard King Peirce & Charles S S Brown. The house was demolished in the 1960's to make way for shops and flats. Looking for information on my great grandparents Percival Gambrell and Ellen Patricia Goom/Gume?. Percival was born in Maidenhead and was a blacksmith not much is known about him as he left when my grandfather was a young child and all records of him were destroyed it is believed he went back to England to join the British Regiment. Ellen was born in Windsor and worked as a Scullery Maid at age 13 within Windsor Castle. They immigrated to Canada on the Empress of Ireland in 1908. They had two children George born Aug 25,1914 and Phylis born either the 7th or the 21st of September 1911

Whitmores had a leather selling business in Maidenhead High Street from 1826 to 1911. Believed that John Arthur Whitmore emmigrated to the Dominions in about 1911 and fought in World War I in a Dominion Regiment. Cannot find him in a passenger list or in the First World War Medal Rolls. He died in Maidenhead in about 1942. Would be grateful for any information.

I am looking for any info about my great great grandmother Jane Ward who was born in Maidenhead in 1857. Her father was William Ward. She married Thomas Stone and they lived in Camberwell London, they had one son Thomas Stone Jnr who was born in 1887, the history is very unclear but Jane and Thomas were separated either by divorce or Janes death and Thomas got re-married to Sarah A Crosby (nee Hancock) also born in Maidenhead, and Thomas Stone Jnr was brought up with Sarah, Thomas and their children Gwendoline, Alice, Norah and Bob Stone.

W're trying to find out about my grandad's father (surname Groves, first name possibly Frederick/Fredric, middle name Cecil) who left his mother (Elizabeth Emily Hawkins) after the birth of their third child. They lived in Maidenhead and was a plmuber for Maidenhead Council. He could possibly have re-married and had more children. My Grandad is 88 now so they would have been living in Maidenhead around the early 1900's. I found an entry for a Fredric Groves living in Bray aged 16, Berkshire and who lived at 20 Princess Street and worked as a labourer in the paper mill. Not sure if this is the same man?

The Lewis family - Midgham
James Lewis, born about 1806,married Amy Hide, and lived in Midgham and Thatcham. In 1861 he was the lock-keeper in Midgham. I think that his parents were Richard Lewis (possibly from Aldermaston) and Mary Hamblin, and that he had sisters Sarah, Mary, Latitia, Lucy, Harriet and Jame. I am looking for any connection to my great grandfather Fredrick William Whitehead, he lived in Milton Hill, Berkshire. he was married twice, first wife's name unknown and she died of pneumonia, but they had 4 children: Fredrick William Jr Married Sally, Isabel, Florance & Christine (nicknamed Tine). He then meet and married a Sara Annie Wise, they also lived in Milton Hill, Berkshire and own or managered the Pack Horse Inn. They had 5 children: Dorothy born 1908, Jack born 1910, William Edwards born 1911 (who had a twin brother George who died at birth) and my grand father Roland Perivial born 1914. Fredrick Whitehead was a Mechanic/Inn Keeper, he died 1924 and Sara Annie moved her 5 children out to New Zealand on the 19 Feb 1925 on the ship called the Ionic, own by the Shaw Savill Line. My Whitehead line finishes at my GG father and I was hoping that there was someone out there that may have a connection to this family and can help me go further, if so please feel free to contact me. Richard & Mary Roake. - Mortimer
Can anyone tell me the name of the parish church in Mortimer. My father while writing about his family said that his grandfather & grandmother, Richard & Mary Roake of "The Kennels", Bath Road, Tilehurst, Reading between 1850 and 1900, were buried in a churchyard in Mortimer. He said his grandad Roake lived into his 80's but although I can find many death records of "Richard Roake" I cannot find the one for my great grandad.

My grandmother Nellie White was in service as a domestic servant for a family in Mortimer or surrounding area. She was 14yrs old (1905) when she was first employed there and stayed until approx: 1913. She is not listed on the 1911 census so perhaps the family were away and she was with them.
