Newbury - Newbury
Arthur Holt 1868-1939, married Daisy Allen, had two children, Walter Arthur Holt (My Grandfather) and his sister Daisy. My Grandfather was sent from England? when he was 12 years old, his sister was placed in an orphanage (she was retrieved by Arthur Holt and raised by him with his new wife, Margaret Jane Kelly (we believe he and Daisy were divorced as she died in Edinburgh in 1968). My Grandfather Walter Arthur Holt Allen would not talk about his parents, childhood even his sister Daisy who he eventually met again in Halifax, Nova Scotia just a few years before he died. It is from Daisy and her family that we have learned what very little information we have. Arthur Holt was born in Ashton-u-Lyne, 1868 and died in Preston in 1939. He had 6 children with Margaret Kelly: Thomas, Helen, Jessie, Edward, Arthur and Robert. Thomas had a son David who married a woman named Margaret who did a lot of research on the Holt family. They divorced and I would like to get in touch with her also, as I have never attempted researching this before, even though my father Thomas (Tom) often wondered about his Grandparents. My dad died in 1998 and I have still wanted some information about the Arthur Holt. I know that he was a soldier with the Lancashire Fusiliers and a member of the Duke of Edinburgh Grand Council. I have his cap badge and a few other things including pictures of him. Did he and Daisy divorce? What happened to make a young boy become a man and never mention his parents again? Can anyone help me find out?
