Thomas Lanfear, Vicar, During 1868-1898
- Letcombe Regis
Interested in this fine gentleman, who trained for the Ministry at St Bees, Northumberland, with my g.grandfather. They must have been close friends, for I find that they pledged to name their first-born children incorporating the others surname, as in Elizabeth LANFEAR Barton.
Thomas had a family while a Missionary in New Zealand, then settled back in England in Letcombe where all 3 of his sons tragically succumbed while teenagers to TB, as well as his wife! Just he and his daughter Mary survived the disease. Such sorrow:I have a most poignant 1885 letter which he sent to my grandfather describing his terrible family-events, and no doubt, that his faith had been very much tested.

Kemp family
- Leverton
Hello from Brisbane, Australia.
I'm interested in confirming that a William Kemp and his wife formerly Ann Ambrose, who had 7 children baptised at the C of E church in Chilton Foliat lived in this region. I don't have any address for any of them. Their youngest was Henry Kemp born 1799, and he married a girl from Reading (no idea of her details) born circa 1803, called Isabella Martha Wright. They moved to London and prospered. They had 2 sons and 1 daughter. Their youngest George is my great grandfather. He married a Jane R Green in 1881. His son, my grandfather, George William, emigrated to Australia in 1912 well after the death of both his parents.
Kind regards,
Julie

nicholson
- Little London
Desperate for information on Nicholson relatives. My great grandfathers name was George Colville Nicholson, my grandfather had the same name, as did my father. My great grandfather immigrated to the U.S. in the mid to late 1800's. He paid his kings tax until he died. The reason he left England, was because he was the 2nd. son, and had to make his own way in the world. Apparently, his older brother passed away in England without any heirs. Any information would be met with cheers and tears, as I long to know the history of my family. Thank you.
