Richard WATTERS was born in 1757 in MARCHAM, Berks,the son of Richard Watters & Ursula (nee Holyoake) He married Martha HANKS at St Nicholas Church, Abingdon in 1785. Eleven children were born to Richard and Martha, the first four died at birth. They were followed by William 1788, Mary 1790, Martha 1793, Elizabeth 1795, Edward 1797, Charlotte 1800 & Richard 1803. Richard was a miller, probably at St.Helens Mill. He died in Abingdon in 1828. Martha later lived with her eldest son William (my 3xgt grandfather) at Rectory Farm in CHOLSEY, Berkshire and died there in 1845.

I know that william robert shurmer Jordan was living in lockinge in 1939 with wife naomi. corporal henry daniel jordan of the royal marines died on the royal oak,the battle ship that was sunk in scarpa flow 14/10/1939. the information above comes from the portsmouth naval memorial and gives his parents names and location.

Hicks - Abingdon, Drayton - Abingdon
Looking for information on the parents and siblings of William Hicks, b. abt. 1819 in Drayton, parish of Abingdon (which is listed as Oxfordshire in the 1871 census). William married Hannah (maiden name unknown), b. abt. 1823 in Drayton. They had at least 8 children, all born in Drayton (birth years are based on subtracting their ages in the census from 1871 - Thomas, 1845; Ann, 1847; John, 1849; Sarah, 1851; William, 1853; James, 1860; Albert, 1863; and Charles, 1865). James later married Emma of Brixton, London, b. 1863, and they had at least 4 children. One was Albert E. Hicks, b. 1892, who died in WW I and whose name is inscribed on a memorial outside St. Mary's parich church in Upton Cum Chalvey, Slough, Buckinghamshire. My great grandparents, Harry Hicks and Eliza Scott, were married at St. Mary's in 1880. I am trying to determine if Harry is related to the Hicks listed above. Harry's grandfather was named Solomon. There was a Solomon John Hicks who died in Abingdon in 1855. Thanks for your help.

John Steane b. 1837 - Abingdon
I am interested to know what happened to John Steane after he appeared in the 1861 Census, where he was a schoolteacher at the British School, Rotherham, Yorkshire. In 1860 he married Elizabeth Catherine Andrew Applebee in Daventry and in 1862 I believe they had a son, Henry John Applebee Steane who died 3 years later. John's father was John Thomas Steane, a tailor and his mother was Ann Pulker, a seamstress. They lived for many years at the Vineyard.
