I am researching the family of my great-grandmother Louisa George who was born in Keysoe in 1863. Her father was John George, her mother Jane Page, and she had at least four siblings, Harriet, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. Part of my problem is that virtually everyone living in Keysoe seems to have been a George or a Page. Any help welcomed. Many thanks.

Knotting - Knotting
Knotting/Knotting Green was home to many of my relatives during the 1800's, including my gg grandfather WILLIAM, whose gravestone is one of the few still legible in Knotting churchyard. I have his marriage and death details, but have never found any record of his birth (c.1803) or baptism. Anybody help? Sometimes the surname has been shown as SAWFOOT, and a John Sawfoot is shown as being born in Melchbourne (next village) in the right year, but I've no further record of him either....One and the same man???

Flemons Family - Leighton Buzzard
Starting before 1700, there was a series of Joseph Flemons (father and son) who were corn millers in Leighton Buzzard. The Flemons gave up milling around 1850, as it was too unhealthy and gave rise to early deaths. The family was supposed to have originated in Flanders and may have been Protestant Walloons, exiled because of their faith, by the Spanish.

It has been suggested that the name caldicott changed circa 1760-1820 to Corkit then Corket then Corkett which it has remained till today. I am interested in establishing a link with the nucleus of Corkett's at Leighton Buzzard, the largest cluster globally and the spelling change back to the proposed original version of the name as listed in Reaney's Dictionary of Surnames. I do have a dictionary of 400 listed Corkett's in the world dated about 1998, which may be helpful to others building family trees.

I just read about a Miss Ethel M Stairs of London who was quoted as saying a book was written about the Stairs family as being one of the oldest families in the Leighton Buzzard area. Eliza is buried in Swansea South Wales where my father was serving as a police constable in the Swansea police force. He was cremated in Plymouth in Oct 1960 aged 79 years.
