Hello, I have quiate a few members of the Gibbs family living in Market Square, Potton on the 1871-1901 census (never sure how you pluralise that word). They were shoe makers, clickers, lasters etc. There was more than one family living in the square too. Anyone out there related to them? I am searching for info on my great grandmother ELIZABETH ANNE CHURCH. According to the 1901 census she was born in Pulloxhill, Bedford. She married FREDERICK LAY in 1877 (in Tillingham, Essex). Unfortunately her father's name is not given on her marriage certificate. I have also "identified" that her mother's name was possibly EMMA CHURCH (Unmarried). I am the g grandson of Harry Cooper, born c 1866, who was the brother of John Thomas Cooper, born 1850. Harry was the first child, or at least the first surviving child born to George and Sarah Cooper after they had moved from Ravensden to Ilkeston, Derbyshire. I have done some research on this branch of the Coopers including discussion with my uncle who is now 75 and who is John Cooper's great nephew.

George Hancock - Riseley
My Great-Great Grandfather, George Hancock was born in Riseley in about 1854 the son of John and Maria Hancock. He had at least one sibling - a younger sister, Charlotte. He married Elizabeth Roberts on 26 11 1875 at All Saints Church, Riseley. Onboth the 1881 and 1891 censuses they were living in the High Street, Riseley. George's father was John Hancock. I believe him to be dead by 1881. George & Elizabeth had eight children Emily b 1877 and Ada b 1879 were the eldest and only girls. The brothers were known by the following nicknames: Tip, Tinker, Fake, Ginger, Oliver Cromwell & Jerry. I'm not sure why! thier real names were John, James, Jospeh, Arthur, Leonard and Percy. James and Joseph were bith killed in the FirstWorld War. They are commemorated on the church war memorial, but there names had been forgottern until I discovered them recently. Emily, Ada and Leonard are all buried in Riseley churchyard, but their graves are unmarked. Arthur is buried there with his wife.

Elizabeth Roberts - Riseley
My great-great-grandmother Elizabeth Roberts was born in about 1855 in Riseley. Her father was George Roberts and her mother Jane, although I do not know her maiden name. She married George Hancock on 26 11 1875 at All Saints Church Riseley. Theylived in the High Street in Riseley and she was a lacemaker. she was very neat and used to be driven to church in a dog cart when she was older. She died of cancer sometime in the 1910's.

George Roberts - Riseley
George Roberts is my great-great-great-grandfather. He was born in Riseley in about 1819. His wifes name was Jane and she was born in Chorston, Bedfordshire. George was an agricultural labourer and in 1881 lived in the High Street, Riseley. His daughter Elizabeth married George HANCOCK. He had a son, John H Roberts at least one grandson, Alfred, who was living with him at the time of the 1881 census. Alfred's father may be another son who was either dead or absent at this time as John wasunmarried in 1881 and could not be Alfred's father.

I am trying to find out more information about the Clifton Family from England. These are on my mother's side. Thomas Clifton married Ester Elizabeth (Lizzie) Perkins. They had the following children; Fred (1899-1988), Daisy, Jack, Thomas adn two other children. Fred married Violet Currie (my great aunt). They resided near Riseley, Bedfordshire, England. His Father George HARRIS b abt 1776 Md Sarah COOPER (of?) in Marston Mortaine, Beds 1797 with children George, Samuel, Denis, Josiah, Emanuel, William, Eliza, Elizabeth. George's father William HARRIS md 1773 Ann AUSTIN in North Crawley, children George, William, John, Thomas, Lydia, Mary. I want to find where William's father John HARRIS Md Sarah (?) abt 1747 (Riseley, Beds or?) and was born abt 1724 and any other children(?). Can you help? I'm in England in East Yorkshire for a few more months.

Goss of Bedfordshire - Riseley
Thomas Goss married Ann Thipthap at Little Woolstone, Bucks in 1711. (Would like to locate their baptisms.) They moved to Riseley in the 1720s where they ran a dairy farm. The family stayed in Riseley until 1852 when Lucy Goss gave birth to an illegitimate son William Goss this resulted in mother, baby and grandparents moving to Biggleswade. William Goss' father is not given on his birth certificate. Is there any way of positively identifying him?

Luke Butcher was born in Sandy 1837 and lived at 162, St.Neots Road, he was the son of Charles and Sarah nee Baldwin. Luke married Elizabeth Cooper(born 1837) They had the following children :- Joseph born 1871(I have details of his descendant) Elizabeth Mary born 11 Jan 1864, married Cushi Albert Punter(my grandparents).
