Goodman family linked to John Goodman (Hoxton 1854)
- Luton
I am searching for John William Goodman who was born in about 1855 in Hoxton, London. He moved to Luton before 1881 when he married Emily Watson (probably Watts). He claims to be 28 at this time and she claims to be 18 although the census puts her age at about 16. They had a long and successful marriage (as testified by a newspaper clipping of 1931 when they celebrated their 50th anniversary. They also claim to have had 18 children and to have adopted another 8. I cannot find the birth of John in the civil records. Rumour has it he was jewish, but I have no evidence of this fact. He worked as a chimney sweep and then a master chimney sweep. Are there any of his descendents out there? Does anyone know anything about him or Emily
